Now, almost four months after his initial diagnosis, Parlay is easing back into his show dog routine so that he’ll be ready for his first show season. Knowing Parlay would need advanced emergency veterinary care around the clock, they informed Knox that she needed to get Parlay to the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. On what started as a normal Saturday in December, Parlay enjoyed playtime outside with Kinslee and then came in for a nap, which was when Knox noticed a small, swollen bump on the left side of Parlay’s face. After a nearly two-week stay at the SATH with the Emergency & Critical Care Service and months of physical therapy with the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Service, Parlay is back in good health. I had always wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself. Soon after graduation, a few of my friends joined Parlay House and invited me to attend. I was a fresh graduate in San Francisco with no friends outside of grad school. Parlay House opened the doors to many new friendships and moments of love and kindness. Over time I got to know Anne and her partner, Arielle, and I couldn’t help but feel drawn to them and what they were creating.
From our member meetups called Petites to our partner collaborations and special access experiences (think baseball games, dining, special ballet viewings and more) there are so many ways to Parlay. To Anne, I say I wish there were words strong enough to articulate what my heart feels for you and the work we do at Parlay House. Sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky to be intimately involved with the Parlay House community and all of the beautiful women who come!
